Is the CompTIA A+ worth doing?

People always ask, is it worth doing the CompTIA A+ training let alone the certification exams?

So why not put this question to bed once and for all.

Here we list the top 5 reasons to get your CompTIA A+ Certification

  1. You don’t know what you don’t know
Its an old saying, but it’s highly relevant for this training program. The content of the CompTIA A+ training course covers 9 major areas of the IT industry. For example, have you ever encountered someone using social engineering to breach your companies IT network? Well if you didn’t know this is something hackers might do, then how can you be aware of it and how you should deal with this situation.
  2. A strong foundation is the key to a strong future
Sure, you would love to earn the big bucks. Wouldn’t we all. But the problem is we all have to or had to start from the bottom. Just like building a house, you need to have a strong and solid foundation to build your dream home. Understanding RAM, CPU, Motherboards and Hard Drives will enable you to make confident decisions on what is best for your IT department.
  3. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
Chasing after the Level 2 and even Level 3 jobs is financially exciting but wouldn’t you rather be good at least a Level 1 job and do it confidently? The CompTIA A+ can be used to prove this to potential employers. Sure, Recruiters and Hiring Managers love asking for Microsoft MCSA, Cisco CCNA and even VMware VCP, but that’s for the higher paying and higher responsibility roles. But that can wait. If you are new to IT, start with the basics and consider moving in to bigger and better roles after at least 12 to 15 months.
  4. You could keep your job!
Sometimes, some people will lie to get the job. We won’t mention any names here. But the problem with lying is that you have to remember what you said. Even worse, you will eventually have to prove your skill too. If not in your first week, maybe the following week. CompTIA A+ will ensure you are able to do the majority of every day System Administration tasks at least.
  5. The skills are here to stay
We all know that computers have transformed. From PC’s the size of a room, to desktop machines, to laptops and notebooks to nowadays quad-core 16gb RAM 128gb Smartphones and tablets in your pocket. Doesn’t that mean we have less IT to manage? Well actually no! IT departments are not becoming obsolete, they have been and are continuing to evolve. CompTIA A+ has also evolved and now it contains the skills and knowledge necessary to manage mobile devices and virtualisation.
